Despite evetually getting to bed at 2am I stumbled back out at 5am to drive up to Mona Vale for the STaR, appropriately named Barrenjoey Bash. Today was forecast to be very very hot and there was a bush fire alert which had closed the National Parks where the Fat Ass run was going to be held so it got postponed to Monday.
A very small contingent with around 12 of us and there was a magnificent sunrise that greeted us. The air was already quite warm as we set out, a nasty hill immediately on the agenda. Some great ups and downs as we followed the coast North. I had decided to turn around at Avalon to make around 15km with tomorrow in mind. Virtual Runner, up from Melbourne, joined me for the return trip as the others pressed on. The heat was really starting to take effect and to add to the fun we had an even nastier hill to climb on the way back. At least it rewarded us with some magnificent views. Finally got back to base, a slowish run time but a tough course in tough conditions, sets the tone nicely for 2006. Followed up with a great refreshing swim in the ocean, very tempted just to stay in the water for quite a while...
For the non Sydney based readers the temperature eventually ended up at around 44 degrees celcius.

Nice to say Hi!! The sunrise was spectacular... hinted at how hot it was going to get. That was a tough run.... but so beautiful!
